Use this wherever you can, it'll make life and people a lot easier for you. And go read The Inheritance Of Loss. Kiran Desai is a terrific, terrific writer. The characters in that book are some of the best that i've ever come across.
This blog shall be deleted soon, 'coz guitaring is all i care about right now.
And if you are into guitaring, watch this video of Mr.John Petrucci playing Glasgow kiss, this guy's technique is the best man, the best.

The Silver Lining

My guitar. Ibanez RG 270DX. I've been playing it all week for like 8 hrs daily. In addition, its also the only thing that i am actually a little good at. So ya, it does deserve a mention taking into account the aforementioned line & the fact that i keep playing it like, all the time. Besides, guitar's what folks in college always associate me with.
Really cant figure out why i love playing it so much though. Here's what it says ::

For Better Luck, wait until winter.

Better luck eh?? Well, for starters, I'm not much of a believer in luck anyways. 'Coz for the major part of my life, luck really hasn't played a pivotal role in it as such. The leitmotif of my 19 years of existence has generally been :: As you sow, so you reap. Been getting what I've deserved on almost all occasions. There is the occasional godsend when I'd least be expecting it but, as always, nullified courtesy some misfortune at the most inopportune moment. Both, "good luck" & "bad luck" are perpetually in sync with each other, consistently crossing each other out.
The Chinese are smart people yes, but paying heed to those 6 words wont assist me much with whats to come till winter, be it good, bad or ugly. And, in truth, my "luck" graph has shown quite an ascension in the past 2 weeks. If its to get better with the arrival of winter, life, is good. :D

But wait a minute!!! Mumbai doesn't have much of a winter!!!(2 weeks at most).....Now how encouraging is that??!!....damned cookie.... :(
<span style="font-family:Trebuchet Couldn't help but smile. It Happens only in India they say, so true.........

A ringtone to catch a man-eater ::
Forest officials in Samba village in the Mahuva taluka of Surat district, who were trying to catch a leopard that had killed a boy from the village on Friday, used a mobile phone with a ringtone that sounded like a rooster to lure the beast into a trap.
The ringtone was a backup just in case the petrified live rooster in the trap decided to clamp up.
The technique was simple. When the officials in pursuit of their elusive killer were sure that the leopard was in the vicinity of the trap, they dialled the 'bait' phone and kept their fingers crossed, hoping that the sound of the rooster would persuade the leopard to head towards the cage.
If this sounds like a hare-brained scheme, it's time for a rethink - officials were successful not so long ago in trapping a man-eating leopard by using this technique in a nearby village.
Three months ago when farmers sighted a leopard in the sugarcane fields in Kathia village, forest officials decided to capture and release the animal somewhere near Ukai. But it turned to be a Herculean task as the chicken refused to squawk for hours and the leopard stayed away.
"It was then that a funny idea struck me. I have a mobile ring tone that sounds like a rooster's cry. I placed my cell inside the cage along with the live rooster and between midnight to 4am when the chances of a leopard coming out for its kill are high, we started calling my cell from another cellphone. To our surprise the trick worked and the leopard fell into the trap," said forest officer Satish Purohit.

Moral Of The Story ::
Don't hesitate to try out ideas that seem stupid at first. No matter how hard one tries, there seems to be no escape from it. Standing in lines, studying for that one mundane subject, there seems to no end to the no of boring things one has to do everyday. But the boredom that I've written about in my previous posts doesn't belong in the aforementioned. Its the type that people suffer from when they're let go, when they're set free, and given complete responsibility for their time and actions. Within a week or less, you'll hear that oft repeated phrase "Man, i'm so bored!!!!!! There's nothing to do". (A phrase which, i too can be accused of using, tho, at a frequency far lesser than the majority). They'll sit around all day doing nothing and simply ponder over the question "What do i do now??". A question, to which they find no answer or are too lazy to even try finding one and are content with allowing themselves to rot. Thing is, i find this to be both dangerous and a crime. Lucky for us they don't jail us for it. And the danger?? Try - "An idle mind is the devil's workshop??" How true that is....
You may call me blunt, but like it or not, i do have a point here. How do you overcome this illness?? That's for you to figure. Can't help you there. Although, if y'all know me, you may have noticed that i have made some progress in this direction, and found things to keep myself busy with. So maybe i can. But lets leave that for later.

Take Time..........

Take time for work, it is the price of success.
Take time to think, it is the source of power.
Take time to play, it is the secret of youth.
Take time to read, it is the fountain of wisdom.
Take time to be friendly, it is the road to happiness.
Take time to dream, it's hitching your wagon to a star.
Take time to love, it is the highest joy of life.
Take time to laugh, it is the music of the soul.

Love & Mercy - Michka Assayas

Some morning, a handful of people board a commuter train, carrying bags filled with charge, all stuffed with bolts and nails. I am refusing to analyze it. Try putting yourself inside the head of a madman, and pretty soon you'll find yourself feeling like one too. Moreover, that is exactly the aim of those delirious political and religious sects: carrying the world into a collective madness at the end of which, of course, truth will prevail, a truth that only its followers detain.
In a magazine called Courier International, i have just read about the story of Zarema, a twenty-three-year-old from Chechnya. Armed with an explosive belt, she renounced, just at the last minute, to smash herself to pieces in a pub in Moscow, and turned herself in to the police. A Russian journalist got the opportunity to interview her in her cell. There she told him her appalling life story. Her mother abandons her while she is a ten-month-old baby. Then her father gets murdered on a building site in Siberia. It doesn't sound like a great start in life. It isn't. Raised by her grandparents, she is forced into marrying "according to our old customs", as she puts it, some local dealer. Pretty soon, the man gets shot by a competing gang. At that time, she is expecting his baby. For want of money, she is not able to raise her baby daughter by herself. So out of hand the husband's clan places the baby in another family. Zarema is accordingly parted from her child and sent back to her grandparents' place. They live at the far end of the country. There, she goes out of her mind with grief. So what does she do? She robs the family jewels, which she proceeds to sell to the market, so as to board a plane and to abduct her daughter. But her aunts recapture her just as she is about to do that. They humiliate her and strike her repeatedly, because she has become the disgrace of the family.
So Zarema sees only one solution. To become at last a "decent person"--I'm quoting her words here--she thinks she has to sacrifice herself for Allah and Jihad, so her shame gets washed away and her debt paid off, since the rebels give away a thousand dollars to a martyr's family. At the rebels' hideout, she encounters other suicide applicants. One of them, a nineteen-year-old girl, blows herself up during an open-air rock concert in Moscow: fourteen dead. Zarema sees the bodies on television. Something clicks in her head. Above all, she feels compassion for the young girl who died in the operation, the one whom she saw everyday---her companion. "She is the one that i pitied the most", she says. So her eyes open and she gives up the madness. You can say a kind of miracle happened....
Love and mercy: those words do not only make sense for the survivors. In order to fight effectively against the terrorist insanity, perhaps they're more than the infiltration of cells, the shelling of villages and the so-called war on terror. Because the nature of that terror is moral and religious as much as it is political, the answer sometimes has to be of the same nature. In one case, love and mercy simply worked...................

Hilarious!!!!!!

You'll dig this vid, especially if your familiar with the characters.

Pink Floyd - High Hopes

What a Song!!!!! How many instances have there been when all that thinking and evaluation really amounted to little or nothing in the end, and the solution was a six letter word, viz.......................ACTION!!!!
I certainly will testify to that, I've found instinct and good 'ol hardwork to be much better alllies than all the calculated planning that many of us employ. I dunno, there seems to be some inherent built-in mechanism within us, which, if allowed to go to work, always, without flaw and without delay, finds the best ways and means to overcome that which is holding and hindering us. Besides that, its fun and there ain't much stress via this route either. So what if you make a mistake??!! Simply learn from it and move on.
Too many of us spend too much time worrying about every problem that'll come our way and work ourselves to death trying to get past 'em. We spend nights without slumber, mulling over our peers, friends or parents' reaction. End result, your folks don't give a rip about it, and you've got yourself some very ugly dark circles. Worth it?? Certainly not. Next time, screw the critics, go ahead and do your thing anyways.
And most of these "problems" exist only in our mind, but we spent so much time with them that by the time opportunity does come knocking, we are too depleted to open the door. Try this instead, work your way through the maze without any surmise and estimate of what is to come, and when your way is thwarted, relax, stay level-headed, don't let your fears get the better of you, and allow the your mind to work through each problem ONE AT A TIME, ie. go to the next hurdle only after you've jumped over the one in front of ya. Thats how an athlete goes about winning a race i think. Try usin this analogy the next time you knot yourself up with problems. Peace.....

Switchfoot - Awakening

My Alt-Rock Favorites. Try Creativity

Bored of all the goings-on in college, at work, on just life in general. Repulsed at even the sight of those books?? Well, looks like you need a change. For me, that change is creativity. Seriously, try it. Sure enough, it'll rid you of the lethargy and rust that has sunk in from the monotony, and enliven you with new found vigour and enthusiasm. A channel, relieving us of all that has crept in from the rote donkey work, that's what creativity does best. All the frustration, the stress and the weariness starts seeping outta ya, and voila!!! your back. The Brain's got the fuel it needed and recompenses us handsomely, suddenly, our hearts are light and our shortcomings, trivial.
What is it, that triggers your muse??? Well, that is for you to ponder. Try something lucid and simple like reading, playing an instrument, writing, painting, poetry, sudoku, to name just a few. So what if you ain't good at it, who cares??!! You're the benefactor here, its you we're talking about. Take my case for instance. I know I'm not good at writing. But hell who cares??!! Suffice to say that it provides me with a channel to vent my frustration, angst & lighten my load in general, which is a must considering the environment i live in (viz. The Jail). Besides, i am more than willing to relieve myself in this manner, rather than in some way which'll cause harm to both others and to me. And, with time, you never know, i might actually improve!!! Sounds good to me. So go ahead, give creativity a shot.

P.S - This article is based on personal experience and there is no guarantee that the techniques suggested will work for everybody. Apocalypto & 300.
300 - Aint a bad movie and is good entertaintment, but is a little toooo fantastic. I mean 300 spartans slaying the combined armed forces of all Asia is very far fetched. And the characters and fight scenes have been amplified beyond belief. Still, good entertainment.
Apocalypto - Watch if you like gore, violence, human sacrifice, live heart extractions and bodies lying in pools of blood. Perfect complement to The Passion Of The Christ. Besides that, its also got a group of natives running after another native, 'coz the captive native killed the clan leader's son, and now father dearest must avenge his son's death. In the process, all of the native clan(6 ppl i think) are killed, while Mr.fugitive survives and saves his family. (That is how the story ends). How it all began?? Well, this native guy's tribe is first ravaged by a clan (same one mentioned above) from another tribe, where he and a few others are captured to be sacrificed 'coz it hasnt rained for weeks, and this myopist tribe believes that human sacrifice will please the Gods and bring rain. But wait, just as native is about to be split wide open, there is an.............................................an Eclipse!!!!! People go beserk, the gods have answered their prayers and they have been salvaged. Duh!!!! Hilarious.
The fugitives are granted reprieve, but what must be done of them?? Well, the clan decides to use 'em as target practice, the fugitive native, seizing the oppurtunity, escapes, and then follows the aforementioned chase.

Forgive me for the poor narration, i just suck at stories and writing in general. But then again, Apocalypto doesn't have much of a script!!!
In other news, moi has prelims for the next 2 weeks, will try my best to study, lets see how far i go with that. And Elda keeps pestering me bout my adsense moolah. Damn irritating i must say, and dude, you cant calculate it, the amount varies depending on the day the check was issued. Sorry mate, but i don't get your money is money funda.
Finally gonna get back to guitarin t'day, nice,.......been a long time since i played my Ibanez........gonna enjoy listenin to its sweet tone again...
And ya, there's an ADLABS openin in a few months time which is just a 5min walk from home. The place is a complete entertainment complex with bowling alley an all. Awesome!!!!! No more long trips to the city to watch a good movie. Yay!!!

Iron Maiden - Phenomenal!!!!!

Scream for me Bangalore! ; Scream for me Bangalore!!!!! went Bruce. And scream and holler we so did. And who wouldn't?? Maiden, live, in the flesh, and you, right there, 20m from them, what a fuckin day!!!!!!!
Lights go out, Adrian, Dave, Janick and Steve rush out to the front, Nicko gets on his seat, and out of fuckin nowhere, Bruce, Bruce friggin jumps over the kit to come onstage(6 ft long jump) and completes the lineup. Crowd goes hysterical, what do ya expect?? Maiden, right there, dream come true man!!! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of 'em couldn't believe it, hands on their heads, & for the rest of us (like me) unable to control ourselves, we screamed ourselves hoarse. What happened in the next 2 hours is a phenomenon which cant be explained. For words can't do justice to elaborate what happened at the grounds on tht saturday night. A different world we were taken to indeed.
Maiden's ability to connect with us was truly a gift. From dedicating Wrathchild to Leon Ireland to getting the whole crowd to sing Fear Of The Dark it was an experience to be lived in, not something you'll get watching the DVD or by listening to 'em on your player or pod. You had to be there you faggets!!!!! See 'em live and you'll know WTF i'm talkin about. 'coz LIVE is where Maiden is, where Eddie is!!!!
A professional act in every sense, playing and performing. And yes, they pulled out every trick in the bag, nothin toned down or held back, same set, same energy, just like the maiden you've seen on the vids and concerts abroad. These Lads make their songs come alive on stage. Its some surreal Adrenaline Rush Phenomenon!!!! By the time the Tank with Eddie was on-stage the crowd had already gone bonkers (it was after Fear of The Dark you see) And when Eddie actually walked on stage in his matter o life an death military uniform, we were bowled over. Song of The Night - The Trooper, most of it on part of Bruce's crazy antics during this number. Wavin the Union Jack, tappin it on Adrian's head (very amusing), the possessed sprinting, climbin all the way up the railing(47 feet), to swivelling the the foglight over all of us, yeah, that was some performance, the energy the band exudes from this one song will get you scramming, singing, humming, jumping and headbanging all at once. Couple That with Wrathchild, Fear Of The Dark, Number Of The Beast, Run To to The Hills and a few more & you've got yourself 2 Hours of adrenalin pumping riffing and vocals. Eddie did show up, first in his tank (ya, a tank), and later during the encore in his military uniform, shooting at us with his gun. An amazing character and apt mascot for maiden, master eddie. His tank was damn amazing!!!! Had its barrel right on my face. Killer man, killer!!! Wish it had blown me to shreds.
And ya, a thing about maiden shows - you wont even know how sapped you are until after the show, they drained you thorughly. Some surreal Adrenalin Rush Phenomenon (ya, really!!!) those 2 hours were. That night i was a spent force, legs, hands, arms, feet, everywhere, agony. But who cares, certainly worth the strain!!!
Post concert, what a hangover moi was left with. Reality seemed boring and mundane. In a word, the journey back home was simply - shallow. Worries and fears that had crept in, were expulsed and laid to rest on the grounds that night. Never have i been so happy and relaxed. Those bastards'll have to bust their brains (like they have one) to pull me under again. I'm Livin' in a Dream!!!!!
Oh, for those of you wondering about the Set list, it was a mix old classics coupled with songs from their current album ( A Matter Of Life Of Death, you ibanovs!!!). Wish they'd played a few numbers more from their earlier albums. Still worth every fuckin second though. Cant wait for 'em to return. 17 months i think, muuhahahahaha!!!!....Maiden!!!! Maiden!!!! Maiden!!!!!!! Maiden!!!!!!

And for Those of you who didn't get IBANOVS, its an anagram of sorts, minus the S. Just read it back to front and you'll see. Just so you should know, its been borrowed, courtesy a Bong friend o mine, going by the name Of Kaushik, also referred to (though not with good intent) as Jhadoo(Broomstick). And looks like one too ;) No hard feelings with that last line i hope??
For a professional account of the happenings on the night of 17Th march,2007 follow the link below ::
http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2007/mar/20sld1.htm

Tom Hess :: The Eternal Fire

Yes Elda, it is a copy-paste, but its worth for the ideas suggested in the paras below. For most of us, even when we were totally beginners, clueless about how to play anything, it somehow didn’t matter because we were just so excited about beginning our musical/guitar journey. I can remember the exact day I bought my first guitar (January 31, 1986). I was extremely excited about owning a guitar and banging around on it making all kinds of terrible noises at first.
That feeling most of us felt at the beginning of our guitar days is what I call “Fire” or “Inner Fire”. It is something like the first weeks and months of a new romantic relationship – very new and exciting and the desire to maintain that passion feeling is strong. But over time (weeks, months or years), that passion to play music weakens. Of course you still have at least some interest in playing and becoming a better musician, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this.
What I hope to do here is help you to get back your fire (or if you still have it, I want to help you to never lose it). The most important thing you must do is recognize what the factors were that caused you to feel less motivated and excited about playing music. Over time, some players begin to feel inadequate in their ability to reach their goals. A more common factor for some is not really having clearly defined goals or a good strategy to reach them. Its important to remember long term goals are long term. As long as you work to move forward, you are progressing. If progress is slow, understand this is normal. Of course there are things you can do to dramatically speed this process up such as practice more, practice more efficiently and work with a really good teacher that can show you how to do improve faster.) Other people become too focused on getting better and lose sight of why they started playing (to play and/or create music they love!). Keep reminding yourself of why you wanted to be a musician in the first place. Besides simply thinking about your early playing experiences, go back to your roots and listen to the same CDs (or cassettes or LPs (if you are old enough to have any of those). Listening to my earliest influences always reminds me of my early music days and I just can’t help to feel that eager beginner feeling again.
I’ve mentioned some of these next few points before in a previous article, but it’s worth mentioning again here.
Find out what truly inspires you to want to play music, write music, jam with your friends, etc. Whatever it is for you, go there and marinate in that inspiration. Get your mind in that place and focus on it. Many classical composers (and other serious artists) go to artist colonies for weeks or months at a time. For them being in a beautiful environment with serious artists of all kinds is extremely inspiring and a great place to write music, practice, reflect among other things. Personally, I like to travel to Europe in the summer and do most of my serious composing there. There is a house I stay in overlooking a valley with large trees and beautiful sunsets. It is very inspiring and I always do my best creating there. Your inspiration may be musical (listening to some great players, bands or songs. It may be going to concerts. It may be a set of things that are totally nonmusical (like a special location or being around special people, etc.). You must find whatever it is and go there, you might be surprised at how fast you feel that burning desire to really play more, write more, to be more.
Never ever compare yourself to other musicians! If you sit around and think about how much better of a player you are compared to your friends, this will probably only lead you to contentment and will steal away your drive and fire to improve. If you think about how much your friend (or any other musician) is better musically compared to you, this often leads to feelings of dissolution about your progress and your goals, which also can lead to a lack of motivation and fire.
When you began playing guitar, how good would you have to be in order to be happy with your playing? And where are you now? When I was starting out, I thought if I could play Iron Maiden or Metallica songs, I would be happy for rest of my musical life! Of course the time came when I could play all those songs, but I didn’t feel as happy as I thought I would when I first made my goal. That is because, before I even reached that goal, I had already set new goals. These new goals were good for my progress, but I made the mistake of never really appreciating and enjoying the success of reaching my earlier goals. I robbed myself of the pleasure of feeling happy about my hard work paying off. Of course by now I have learned that lesson and do thoroughly enjoy each new goal that is reached. It is my hope you will learn that lesson now and not after several more years of playing guitar.
Tom Hess is a professional virtuoso guitarist and teacher. Now thats quite a contrast when you compare it to somethin like Jesus doesn't want me or the other stuff Cobain used to write about. Guess age & change are things no one can defy, not even Rock stars!!??....Read the lyrics and see for yourself...
Or maybe he's just tryin to tell us that them Rockstars are human too, and that they have their moments in the dark as well. type='text'>A Week To Forget!!!!

Oh what a horrid week it has been!!!! One that has been plagued by
non-productivity and a lack of direction. One where i've collapsed emotionally, and physically as well. Never have i exchanged the word "SORRY" so many times in 7 days. I've sent my friends quarreling, all courtesy of my narcissism and misdirected hate!!!! Complainin and allowin myself to be agitated at the slightest of notions. And i've given 'em gossip mongers somethin to chew on, viz. my blog!!!! Dammit!!!!!!! cant beleive i let that slip.....
But tomorrow, i start afresh. No more, no more!!! Retrace my path again i shall. Will more than make up for the loss. For now, its back to Square 1. Am specially perked bout next week, what with Waters comin to perform an all. Hope it turns out to be so.....both for me and for y'all too....Peace Out...

Harshit Coutinho :: Toxic C

H Man. First thing that comes to mind?? - very unique dressing style. Dress code - likely to be in his 3/4ths and sleeveless T's at most times. His lunch is amazin (its always non-veg, yuum!!!!). Is extremely lame is in his Hindi (like i aint, sheesh!!!!!). Abuses - extremely hybrid, from the plain weird to the spontaneous ones that'll get you laughin' to death. Has a passion for cars, bikes & driving. Hopes to be an ace driver someday, an automobile workshop's on the cards as well. Best o' luck mate. Also has dreams has dreams of makin it to MIT (is capable too). Again, abuses - extremely hybrid, they're so WTF?? Jumps to conclusions & wont stop until you acknowledge his point. Had Shirke checkin hi out in t'day's lecture (now thats scary). Shares a violent physical relationship (platonic) with Batman. May hurl abuses, and himself at you for no reason. Gets a hysterical childlike pleasure out of punching & slapping people without reason. Shirke's goin bonkers over the guy right now (i wrote this post in the lecture).
One of the few guy's in college whose company i enjoy, and helps relieve the monotony of college. Could be a lil more generous with his tiffin though. Although , i'd feel the same way, if my food was so good too. My verdict - always be on good terms with the bloke, its worth it for the food!!!! And dude, Shirke couldn't stop starin at Harshit today!!!!!..

Reunion & Stage Fright

So we had our reunion yesterday (2003 batch). Ya, it was fun, meetin up with old friends (not that i had many), and just catchin up on life 4 years after we left school. Made some new friends too, :) :) :) was really kicked about that(you see, i was very shy in school) Yay!!!!!
Hats off to Mohit & gang for the organisation, the arrangements were awesome!!! Anuraag's gettin to be quite a pro at the Turn-table, nice, very nice. Vignesh has an amazin moustache and is in love with The Beatles. Unreal!!! And them posers is still, ya, them posers. Nevertheless, they never failed to put a smile on my face, even in the dullest of moments :-) , hehehe, the sacrifices people make, stupid morons. Guess there is a price for being cool. Glad you guys obliged, thank you very much.
Yours truly here performed and hence the Stage fright in title. But before we move on to that lemme introduce my mates to you. Achintya Rao - Tabla & Harmonica, Presently In Xavier's S.Y.B.Sc. Next up Rolins T. Roy - Keys, rhythm and percussion. Education - 2nd Year Architecture at D.Y.Patil. The brains behind the Bounty Humpers (thats what Achintya & me decided on). Our set list - A medley of Jethro Tull's Locomotive Breath & Deep Purple's Smoke on The Water followed by a jive cum blues number, an OC if you'd like. Well, as you'd know it, i got on stage and wham!!! i froze. To think that i'd finally fought off my demons and here they were, tormenting me once more. The traces of poise that i had shown in recent gigs, were gone. The only silver lining being my friends who, inspite of me, convinced me to hang in there, and showed absolute faith in me. Guess what, it worked!!! My fingers found the right notes and by the time we got to Smoke On The Water we were, yaa, smokin!!! The crowd gettin behind us was another plus. But i was still gutted and insisted on leavin out my solo for the blues - jive piece, for it was to be spontaneous and the last thing i was up for was blah blah, ..blah blah blah & then i soloed. Saala, i look like i'm in a mental agony video, just cant seem to, even fuckin smile!!!! You know which song my friggin face is likely to remind you of?? - Iron Man. Boy do i need stage presence...anybody got any tips on that??......and yes, its a lousy solo!!!!!!!......The videos will explain, they'll be up as soon as i know how to post 'em.

Get Over It

Hey, here's a song for all you self-pitying pricks to muse about (me included at times). But this song posting habit of mine has got to stop. So, henceforth moi shall use the medium of songs sparingly.
Back to the topic, self-pity is like a disease affecting the whole world at present (except for a few tough cookies), and i cant stand people feelin sorry for themselves when there are others in far deeper holes than the ones they're in. For the love of God, take your eyes of yourself at times will ya, self-indulgence has a limit!!!!!
This song by the Eagles certainly drives home the point i wish to make, hope those folks get it. total indifference to worry. Dont know what he's doin in a place like Agnels. Anyways here's a short bio on one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. Just his college routine, nothin else. It Follows below ::
College begins, but aforementioned dude is nowhere to be seen. A couple o weeks later, Mr. realises that his attendance is low and must cover up. Zhaou man, through sheer will-power & some nifty calci-work , figures out how many lectures he gotta attend, grits his teeth, sits through 'em and wouldn't u know it!!? Dude's got an attendance of 75-80%. Killer man, killer. Later, come submissions, and our man has gotten through one, at the most, two subjects in the prelims. However, Zhaou man, steers through all the re-tests, vivas & other shit the profs throw at him & finishes submisions on par with the others (I mean my class by the others).
Oh yeah, another Vishal trait, pre-P.L Veeshall doesn't know a thing about his subjects, but come exam time and he knows 'em inside out, and the bitch gets a first class every Sem (wid the exception of the 1st i think). Only area where his case gets taken is the term work. He loses out on that big time. Would've made the nerds feel like horseshit if he'd got those in hand. Tough luck dude, you should've gone to R.A.I.T , then you'd really kick butt. Besides that, dude's got a karizma, a PSP, a Credit Card & wants to be a doctor. Yeah, he's cool....cheers dude!!!

Writer's Block

Dont know why this is happenin, but i seem to be goin through what they call as a "Writers Block". Just cant get myself to, or dont, have anythin to post. Well, taking a cue from the great Bono who says "Know the truth, and the truth will set you free" , i post a song from U2's October summing up my current mood. Coz its the truth & maybe it'll do the trick. Lets see, only time will tell. BTW a couple of the lines have been re-written to suit my taste.

I try to end this line.
I try to stand up.
But I can't find my feet.
I try, I try to speak up.
But only in you I'm complete.

Gloria, in Te Domine
Gloria, exultate

Oh lord, stir me shake me.
Awaken in me my spirit again.

I try to end this line.
I try to get in, But I can't find the door.
The door is open.
You're standing there, Let me in.
Gloria, Gloria

Oh Lord, if I have anything, anything at all, I'll give it to you.
Gloria, Gloria

How Do They Do it??

Man this is one thing that baffles me everytime i think about it. How could the Indian team blow up their chances of a series win in S.A? After a killer performance in the first test and being in strong positions in both the 2nd & 3rd tests, the team suddenly decides to screw up and throws away the series. And this is not the first time, i remember numerous instances of the team crumblin under pressure. Maybe its not the skill tht they're lackin but it is the attitude that sucks. Look at countries like Australia,S.A and any of the other big countries in cricket or sport for that matter. They've produced countless amazin athletes and players who always come good when needed. Maybe its somethin about the culture and upbringing that they have?? Think we need a change from our stereotypical, regimented and conservative culture. I mean, right from childhood, we are forced to trod down this narrrow and barren path and are supposed to stay on it forever. Taking the road less travelled is strictly for fools!! they say. Dreams and living them are simply reserved for the "chosen" few. How are we supposed to shine with thinking like this?? And the worst of it all, most people go through this zombie walk thinkin its jus normal and thats what they're supposed to do. Cmon man, your not a machine, in fact, u have one, its called the BRAIN and your supposed to use it!!! Maybe that swhat they need to teach us in schools, how to use the brain..... That may be what the Indian team needs to do......friggin morons!!! .................Huh, weird post this is, i start with the Indian Cricket team and end on the brain(???!!!) Maybe its my brain that needs a checkup....or maybe??...........balls, i'm just bored!!!!!!!!!!

Pune Happenin???

Hey, Pune looks like its thee place to be. Malls, pubs, multiplexes, inox's, its got it all. The places to go to are endless. And with tons of college students in the city you'll always have company for anything anytime. The best part about it all is the travel time man, 15-30 mins max. That is jus so awesome. Plus the pace at which things move is a slower compared to bombay, givin ya far more time to breathe.
Maybe i'm sayin this 'coz i live in a shithole like vashi & have no clue about life in places like Bandra, colaba, lokhandwala, andheri etc....those places do rock!!! I'll leave it to you real Mumbaiites to decide between Mumbai and Pune. Maybe i will move to town one of these days and get a taste of life.......Anyways, if you are in Pune go to Burger King, (no its not connected to the Burger King in the US). Its a local restaurant thats been running for a long long time in Pune. After going there you'll simply chuck Mcdonald's coz the stuff there is amazing!!!!

Postcards From Home

Hey, check out these pictures of Arunachal & Assam taken by me cous... type='text'>Eldrich Rebello :: About A Fish

Well, we've all seen him college, with his geeky glasses and egg-shaped head. He talks and writes a lot about peers (Batman in particular) but little is known bout him. Some think he's gay, some say martian, some think he's plain weird, few folks also think he's a nice chap (?????!!!!!!!!!). Well a couple o' days back he gave me a deep and interesting insight about himself. Apparently, our man Elda, thinks only about four things:

1) To make bombs of varying intensities and then jus watch em explode. Apparently the noise, smoke & lights exalt him to the nth degree.
2)To Catch fish and slay em.
3)To see Penguins dance.
4)He also has a lot of interest in sound and music and wishes to create stimulating music for the penguins to enhance their moves.

These four goals are all related to each other and he has carefully carved out a plan to accomplish these in perfect sequence. So here goes:
Elda, wid his expertise in bomb making shall create bombs tht emit extremely high frequency ultrasonic waves. These shall be placed along the circumference of a pond full of fish. Now, when bombs explode, fishys come to centre of river where Elda lies in wait. With tht fishing net he borrowed from Batman Elda catch fish. But on account of batman going broke every couple of days, the net he gives Elda is a cheap and 3rd rate one. Consequently more than half the fish escape and Elda manages to catch only 10-15. Now, Elda, with Batman's Swiss knife (its actually a second-hand made in Saki-naka) slays the fish and has fulfilled his second wish. Following this,Eldrich slogs his butt off, gets into Berklee, masters the concepts of sound and music and after two yrs of hardwork comes up with his very own f-tunes (designed specifically to enhance penguin dancing moves). Then, with the money he made thru his stinkin blog, he just about manages to buy a lousy discman and hitches a ride to the Antarctic. There, braving the cold he ventures deep into the iceland and finally, has captured a dozen penguins. Then, the final phase begins. For Elda, its all or nothin now. Coz its on this icy wasteland that his very purpose for existence is to be decided. Will he die another unknown ? or is he to be immortalised forever? As his trembling hand puts the CD in the player, his whole life flashes in front of him. From the time the first and last strand of hair grew on his head to the day when he joined agnels to when he screwed himself, everything just zips past him like a fast-forwarded trailer. For a second he feels like he's a in a cheap Bollywood rip-off. But then, the cold Antarctic chill brings him back to reality. He places the phones on the 1st penguin, nothing. 2nd one, again nothing. 3rd - nothing. 4th,5th,6th,7th,8th,9th,10th, nothing, nothing, NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No.11wobbles ahead. Since then the band has performed many concerts all over The Northeast as well as in different parts of India. They have also performed at the International Jazzmandu Festival in Kathmandu for two consecutive years..2004 and 2005.
Anyone with an interest in the western music scene in India, will recognize singer/songwriter Rudy Wallang, who leads this tight knit musical unit. Born into music, he grew up listening to his father Toto Wallang making music and himself started singing and playing the ukulele at a very tender age eventually graduating to the guitar. Today, Rudy is one of the foremost singer / songwriter / blues guitar players in the country with a long musical history having been part of the well known blues rock acts, Great Society & Mojo.
Vocalist and rythmn guitarist of SOULMATE is Tipriti Kharbangar who has earned a name as one of the finest female performers to have emerged out of Shillong. If there is one thing Tipriti is happy doing it is singing and reflecting this, she vocalizes with a joy and exuberance that is unmatched and original. She started out singing gospel songs at the local church choir and is now drawn to the Blues, Soul, Jazz and likes and listens to Aretha Franklin, Billy Holliday, Etta James, Nina Simone and B.B.King. SOULMATE also hires the services of different session musicians like Manas Chowdhury(Bass),Sam Shullai(Drums),Ferdy Dkhar(BAss) and Sean Morehead(Drums). VH1 recently aired their first Video (about six months back, didnt get much airplay though). They've also released their first album aptly titled, SHILLONG.

FAITH:
Lineup::
Deepu - bass/vocals
joshua - vocals
tarik - guitars
krishna - guitars
pom pom - drums
raja - keyboards

Here goes the Story …. Dec 2002 …. For the first time a band from Assam called PSYX which was rising to great heights in the North East in a very short period of time, went to Mumbai and turned finalists at the IIT Mumbai Rock Competition “Livewire” and pretty much stamped it’s mark in the city when they covered 3 Megadeth Numbers and a well received self composition. Unfortunately, fate played a big part and due to the lead guitarist’s string snapping in the first Satch number itself, they were disqualified from the competition as they could not make it within the allotted time slot, but what happened was that they won the heart of the crowd. However, just after that show the first guitarist Bijit had to quit due to personal reasons which was a setback at the time as he was integral to the band and was handling vocals as well. However, egged on by the success of the event and hence , growing in self confidence, Deepak (better and affectionately known as Deepu) the bass guitarist the soul centre knew that great things were bound to happen if he could just rekindle the fire and keep it burning. Hence “FAITH” was formed in Aug 2003 where a select few budding and fine musicians were carefully assembled and rose as a family with great confidence. The new line-up of Faith came to prominence when they bagged the FIRST RUNNERS UP AWARD at rock-o-phonics, the rock contest at IIT Guwahati on jan 2005,along with THE BEST VOCALIST,BEST DRUMMER (his 2nd ),BEST ORGINALCOMPOSITION award The current lineup consists of members of various other bands who got together for the love of music and followed it up with a driven passion. All band members are extremely open to all forms of music and are secure in the knowledge that they give every ounce into what they do. Famous in the North-East already, they signed up for the great “CAMPUS ROCK IDOLS 2005” competition and became all India runners-up (out of 220 bands across the country). FAITH would not stop at that and there is no reason that they should either with a name like that. The greatest achievement was winning the “XXI Independence Rock competition” at Mumbai on 26th August 2006, where they became the rage with a huge gathering of rock fans. Their Classic Rock set was mesmerizing to say the least and their self compositions were amazing with outstanding vocals, bass and guitar work …. So for Faith …this is not the end of the journey, but the kick start to even greater things to come. They are also about to release their first Assamese Rock album shortly and their fans can hardly wait.

The Fifth Mountain :: Paulo Coelho

Just a few lines i liked from Paulo Coelho's The Fifth Mountain. Damn good book BTW. Must read if you liked The Alchemist ::

1) When you want something with all your heart, the entire universe conspires to help you acheive it.

2) Merely be attentive to what happens in your life, and you will discover where, every moment of the day, he hides his words & his will. Seek to do as he asks; this alone is the reason you are in the world.

3) Often good is disguised as evil, but it goes on being the good & is part of the plan that he created for humanity.

4) A warrior is always aware of what is worth fighting for. He does not go into combat over things that do not concern him, and he never wastes time over provocations.
A warrior accepts defeat. He doesnt treat it as a matter of indiffernce nor does he attempt to transform it into a victory. The pain of defeat is bitter to him. He suffers at indifference and becomes desperate with loneliness. After all this has passed, he licks his wounds and begins everything anew. A warrior knows that war is made of many battles; he goes on. Tragedies do happen. We can discover the reason, blame others, imagine how different our lives would be had they not occured. But none of that is important, they did not occur, & so be it. From their onward we must put aside the fear that they awoke in us & begin to re-build.

100 Greatest Guitarists

Its a list i got from the August 2003 issue of Rolling Stone. Peace out.............

Guitar Anatomy

To know the guitar, you must first learn what the different parts of the guitar are. The pictures below will show you what each part of the guitar is called.

Before you begin playing, you must also know how the frets and strings are numbered (See Figure Below). The strings are numbered from the lightest (thinnest) to the heaviest (thickest). So the thinnest string is the first string, and the thickest is the 6th string. A guitar in standard tuning is tuned to E-A-D-G-B-E. This shows the 6th string to the 1st string. In other words. 6th string - Low E, 5th string -A , 4th -D, 3rd -G, 2nd -B, 1st -High E. Look at the diagram to find out how the frets are numbered. Note: The 0 fret is also the open note on each string.
